What exam day looks like
The exam is 135 questions in 150 minutes, given by Pearson VUE at a test center. 125 of the questions are scored and the rest are unscored pretest items. The passing score is 70 percent of the scored items.
The Georgia section holds 25 of the 125 scored items. It has no passing score of its own; the overall score decides the result.

What the Georgia material covers
Licensing law and unfair trade practices appear on every Georgia exam. This one adds both line sections: insurable interest and consent, replacement and life advertising, required life policy provisions and group life conversion on the life side, and uniform policy provisions, Medicare supplement and long-term care on the health side.
Before and after the exam
Since June 2025 the prelicensing course is 8 hours for life and 8 for accident and sickness. Some sources still show the old 20-hour requirement, so confirm with OCI or your provider. Holders of the CLU or FLMI designation are exempt from the course, and a bachelor's degree in insurance exempts you from the course but not the exam.
Apply through Sircon within 12 months of passing. Once licensed, you complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, at least 3 of them in ethics.
Common questions
- Should I take the combined exam or two separate ones?
- Either route leads to both lines. The combined exam is 135 questions in 150 minutes; the Life and the Accident and Sickness exams are 90 questions in two hours each. If you plan to hold both lines, one combined sitting is usually simpler.
- How many prelicensing hours do I need?
- 8 hours for life and 8 for accident and sickness, 16 in total. The old 20-hour figure no longer applies.
- What score do I need?
- 70 percent of the 125 scored items. A 60 percent score can support only a discretionary temporary license, and only with a licensed agent sponsor and an insurer's written request.
