What exam day looks like
The exam is 135 questions in 150 minutes, given by Pearson VUE at a test center. 125 of the questions are scored. The passing score is 70 percent of the scored items.
The Georgia section holds 25 of the 125 scored items and is not scored as a separate pass or fail.

What the Georgia material covers
Beyond licensing law and unfair trade practices, expect cancellation and nonrenewal notice for personal and commercial policies, binders, rate regulation, the Georgia FAIR Plan and the insolvency pool.
The casualty side adds uninsured motorist coverage, compulsory auto liability, defensive driving discounts, the Georgia Automobile Insurance Plan and the Workers' Compensation Assigned Risk Insurance Plan.
The 16-hour course
Since June 2025 the property and casualty course is 16 hours: 8 for property and 8 for casualty. Some sources still show the old 20-hour requirement per line. Holders of the CPCU, CIC, CISR or CRM designation are exempt from the course, and a bachelor's degree in insurance exempts you from the course but not the exam.
Common questions
- How is this different from Personal Lines?
- Personal Lines is a narrower license for personal auto, homeowners and related coverage, with a 95-question exam in two hours. Property and Casualty is 135 questions in 150 minutes and includes commercial lines.
- How many prelicensing hours do I need?
- 16: 8 hours of property and 8 of casualty. Confirm with OCI or your provider, since some sources still show the old requirement.
- What happens if I fail?
- You can retest 14 days after a first or second failed attempt, and 60 days after each attempt after that.
